Spend Your Time

I have found that if Satan can’t get me to deliberately disobey God with temptation, he will try to get me to waste my time. Back in middle school, I felt like God was challenging me to give more time to Him. Before then, there were days that I struggled to even spend five minutes reading the Bible or a devotional. I’m not going to lie, sometimes I still struggle with that. I did the math- five minutes is 1/288th of the day. I remember feeling like He was asking me if my favorite celebrity or best friend or significant other wanted to spend time with me, would I dread or have a hard time figuring out how to spend five minutes with them? He, the Creator of the entire world, the most important Being in all the universe, wants to spend time with me, is knocking on the door of my heart. Will I let Him come in and set aside time for Him?

Time doesn’t lie. I can say that God is my highest priority, or that I care about my husband or kids or even my health or dreams, but if I don’t take the time to show it, I make myself a liar. With five kids, it’s often hard to take time to do some of the things I love. However, I have found that when I really want something done or I want to make our house a home, or this season of life where we have deadlines with carpet coming in soon and needing to finish so many things in a small amount of time, my old ways of procrastinating just won’t do. Every day it has forced us to take the time working towards our goal of getting things done or else it just won’t happen and we won’t be ready.

This past year, I felt like God has just been asking me to be more intentional with my time and prioritize what I value. Having five kids has taught me just how fleeting and valuable time truly is. If I want to accomplish my dreams, get closer to God and others, or get healthier, I have to dedicate my time to those things. Nobody can do it for me. I can’t make more time. None of us can. We all have the same amount. While I can’t make more of it, I can spend time making those things in life I deem important a priority. Time is precious. There is no better time than the present. I challenge you, spend your time wisely instead of letting it tick away wasted on unimportant things.
