Passion's Importance

Updated: Nov 4, 2020

~*Passion Drive*~

Passion gives life to my soul

To not live out of it

Would put death to my life's role

Why do people choose routine?

Why live life so serene?

When passion wishes to take the scene

And I know that each attempt I would make

To live a life so fake

Would never be me

I refuse routine

As my false identity

Passion drives me

It's what I live for

Nothing less

Nothing more

Passion's taking over me

I'm not putting my life in cruise control

Passion is the engine of my soul

The tire,

That will have its roll

The wheel,

That's taking control

It drives me

I wrote this poem in my early teens. It showed how I felt about routine and doing what I felt were mundane things. I have always been one to want to live with passion and purpose.

However, as I got older, I learned the value of doing those mundane and routine things passionately. There’s value in self-discipline and doing things that might seem routine when done with intention. Many of us might feel like our calling is small or our job is insignificant. However, we might be right where God has us to be. Don’t despise small beginnings. Don’t waste away those hidden seasons. If we do have the opportunity to create and live a life of our passions, we shouldn't pass them up or miss out on it because of fear or the hard work it might take to get there. However, until then, whatever we do or wherever we are, we should work at it passionately.

I still feel like God has placed passions on our heart for a reason. I want to always pursue my passions. I want to figure out how my passions can serve God, my family, and the world. However, I don’t ever want to go through life chasing those big things and realize that I missed all the little moments that make up the entirety of my life. I don’t want it to ever be said of me that I lived half-heartedly. A lot of us might feel like our lot in life is insignificant, and when we do, we have a hard time giving it our all. However, I want to challenge you to give it your all and live passionately wherever God has placed you. Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, all your passion, as to the Lord and not unto men. If you’re a garage cashier at a hotel, make sure you give people a reason to smile when they go out and come in as you could be the first and last encounter they have that day. If you clean houses, you’re giving hard-working people a relaxing space to live. If you’re a teen, show your parents that you honor them and meet the expectations God has planned for you. If you're a stay at home mom, you're doing kingdom work. No matter where God’s placed us, there’s purpose in it. May we never only meet or lower people’s expectations, but always raise them. We might not all be called to do what we deem great things, but if we do them with great love and passion, those small things add up to the entirety of our lives. May we always do our best, give it our all, and live a life of passion. Anything not done with passion is a waste of time. As an added bonus, we might just work our way up to those positions we’ve been wanting.
